COSTA RICA HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE
|

San Jose Central
Valley:
Acclimatize yourself to Central America! By car or tour, investigate the
many unique villages dotting the hillsides overlooking the capital city of San Jose. Stop
for lunch near the Cathedral of Los Angeles in Cartago; visit the coffee plantations of
the Orosi Valley; shop for fine carvings in Sarchi. The inner city of San Jose offers
unlimited opportunities to meet the inhabitants of this historical city as you meander its
bustling side streets. Enjoy its hospitality as you sample its unending variety of
restaurants and cafes. Visit the many shopping areas, museums, casinos and local
neighborhoods. |

|
|

Tortuguero Canals:
Located on the warm Caribbean Sea, Tortuguero is world renowned for the
nesting of the green sea turtle. Travel lazily back in time to a prehistoric
Amazonian-style rainforest aboard one of the many riverboats traveling from below the
central highlands to Tortuguero National Park. We provide the local guides to help you
discover endangered species of crocodile and manatee as you make your way through the
complex canal system surrounding your jungle lodge. Sleep peacefully beneath Casablanca
ceiling fans as howler monkeys, Tucans, and varied bird life fills the jungle around you. |
 |
|

Arenal Volcano La Fortuna:
Two hours out of San Jose, through coffee plantations and past splendid
waterfalls, you are face to face with one of the most active volcanoes in Central America.
Bath in thermal baths just steps from your hotel or horseback ride on the volcano with the
assistance of experienced guides. Windsurf on Arenal Lake, hike to Fortuna Falls, and
visit the Ventano Caverns. Accommodations range from the majestic views from the Arenal
Lodge, the awesome location of the Arenal Observatory Lodge, or the pampering at the
Tabacon Spa and Resort at the base of the volcano! |
 |
|

Monteverde Cloud Forest:
Drive the road voted "the most scenic byway in Costa Rica" to
a canopied forest a mile high! Catch glimpses of the ever-active Arenal Volcano through
the mist as you horseback ride or hike on easy trails within one of the richest and most
complex tropical cloud forests in the world. Second only to the great coral reefs in
diversity, Monteverde cloud Forest is home to the resplendent quetzal (found only in Costa
Rica and Guatemala) and the rare golden toad. Visit the Butterfly Farm, the famous
Monteverde Cheese Factory, and walk in the treetops on raised bridges in the sky. This
reserve has become famous for its unique role in preserving Costa Ricas vanishing
cloud forests. |
 |
|

Selva Verde:
Nestled in the midst of a lowland tropical forest, this is one of the
richest areas in the world for birds, butterflies, orchids, tree ferns and wild animals.
North out of San Jose on paved roads, you have ample opportunity to stop at the Poas
Volcano visitor Center to experience at close hand an active crater as you look directly
into its bubbling cauldron. At the Selva Verde Lodge, built right in the treetops, you can
sit on the veranda while observing the myriad species of wildlife, raft down the adjoining
river or, accompanied by a local naturalist guide, take a four hour nature walk through
Selva Verdes own private Reserve. |
 |
|

Northern Pacific Coast:
For activity and beaches, visit the areas of El Ocotal, Flamingo, and
Playa Tamarindo. Known for its surf and sand, you can add to a relaxing stay a little
tennis, golf, dancing, snorkeling, fishing, and exploring. A wide variety of hotels set in
beautiful surroundings compliment visits to wildlife refuges and quiet walks on the beach. |
 |
|

Southern Caribbean:
Black sand beaches, turquoise water, and colorful coral. Thick rain
forest reaches down to the sea as the air is filled with the tropical beat of reggae. A
younger crowd roams here, with good surf and offbeat local restaurants. |
 |
|

Manuel Antonio:
Tropical jungle reaches down to sheltered white sand beaches. An area
superior in beauty to the Caribbean island of your imagination. You can swim in the
crystal clear waters or picnic on secluded beaches as you watch monkeys play in the jungle
only a few feet away. Unique hotels sit on hilltops offering grand views of the National
Park and warm pacific coastline. Only four hours by road from San Jose, Manuel Antonio
offers fishing, hiking, sea kayaking and horseback riding. |
 |
|

Osa Peninsula:
All inclusives, unique luxury, and tent camps are found in the remote
regions of Drake Bay and Corcovado National Park. Miles of uninhabited beaches, virgin
rain forest, canoeing, and a trip to Cano Island all make this remote area of Costa Rica
an adventurers delight. Access into this area, like Tortuguero, is by plane and
boat. |
 |
|

Whitewater Rafting:
Costa Rica offers some to the worlds best whitewater rafting and
kayaking rivers. Wild and untamed, these big, brash rivers plunge through spectacularly
beautiful, largely unexplored tropical wilderness. Enjoy with professional guides these
tropical wonders. All levels of rafting are available as are single and multi-day tours.
